Ministry & Mission
In the first chapter of James, the author talks about fulfilling God's Word through actions. Many men feel that the best way to serve God is via mission - building a house for Habitat for Humanity, supporting Community First!, or clothing the homeless via the Capital District UMM Clothes Closet.
United Methodist men support numerous ministries through their local units, the Capital District, the Rio Texas Conference, and the General Commission on UMM. There are many opportunities for men of all ages to find a ministry that is exciting, fits their personality, and will help them grow in Christ.
Capital District
The main mission of the Capital District UMM is to support local unit UMM groups within the Austin area. If your group needs help getting started, training, seeks to partner with another men's group in your area, etc.; you can find information in this website or you can contact the Capital District UMM for assistance.
In addition to supporting the local UMM units in the area, the we support programs such as the Homeless Men's Clothes Closet, Scouting and Youth programs, and Community First! to name a few. Want to get involved?
Community First!
A new ministry in which the Capital District UMM will be involved with is Community First! which is being developed by Mobile Loaves and Fishes. Community First! is a 27-acre master-planned community that will provide affordable, sustainable housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. We support this ministry through Riverbend Church. You can participate in Community First! by providing financial donations and/or participating in construction of “micro houses” and other projects on the property. To learn more about this exciting ministry, check out the Community First! website.
Rio Texas Conference
The Capital District UMM are part of the Rio Texas Conference which has various ministries such as the Annual Conference "golf cart" ministry.
General Commission on UMM Ministries (GCUMM)
There are numerous GCUMM (the national UMM organization) related ministries such as the Strength for Service To God and Country daily devotional guide, Scouting, the Upper Room Living Prayer Center, a partnership with the Society of St. Andrew, and many more. There are many ways to get involved. See how you can serve God.
